Pantone, the company that sets one of the most widely recognised colour standards, has named the Pantone 17-3938 Very Peri the colour of 2022.
For the first time this year, the brand decided to create a new shade that wasn’t already in its existing catalogue of colours for its colour of the year. To do so, the company blended blue tones with violet-red.

To arrive at the selection each year, Pantone’s colour experts at the Pantone Colour Institute™ comb the world looking for new colour influences. These can include the entertainment industry and films in production, travelling art collections and new artists, fashion, all areas of design, popular travel destinations, as well as new lifestyles, playstyles, and socio-economic conditions. Influences may also stem from new technologies, materials, textures, and effects that impact colour, relevant social media platforms and even upcoming sporting events that capture worldwide attention. For 23 years, Pantone’s Colour of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings, and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.
